Carrie Flaxman is the Deputy Director of Public Policy Litigation and Law for Planned Parenthood Federation of America in Washington, D.C. She will provide us with an examination of state and federal laws impacting the constitutionally protected rights of women to seek an abortion and access contraception. As Deputy Director, Carrie Flaxman challenges attempts to restrict access to reproductive health care around the country, advises Planned Parenthood affiliates about the legal issues raised by such attempts, and assists those affiliates in developing public advocacy strategies to improve access to women’s reproductive health services. She has most recently served as lead counsel in succesful challenges to state requirements that physicians who provide abortions have admitting privileges at local hospitals.
Ms. Flaxman is a 1996 graduate of the Yale Law School, where she was the executive editor of the Yale Law Journal. Directly after law school, Ms. Flaxman clerked for Judge Edward R. Becker, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, from which she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.
