Allan Van Fleet is Senior Counsel with McDermott Will & Emery in Houston. He previously was a partner with McDermott, a shareholder with Greenberg Traurig, and a partner with Vinson & Elkins. He is the former Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law.
In 2013 and 2015 he filed amicus curiae briefs in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Family of Heman Sweatt in the affirmative action case Fisher v. University of Texas. Gary Mauro of the National Law Journal wrote that the brief, one of over 90 filed, was “one of the most powerful submissions on either side.” And a New York Times opinion piece by Yale Law School Professor Linda Greenfield urged the Justices to “hear the voice of Heman Sweatt” through the brief.
He is a director of our Harris County Democratic Lawyers Association. But to show he can work with anyone, he represented UT Regent Wallace Hall in impeachment proceedings before a committee of the Texas House of Representatives and worked with Governor Sarah Palin to secure passage of the Alaska Gasline Incentive Act.
